Visit to Almond Valley Heritage hosted by Dr Robin Chesters

Almond Valley Heritage Trust is an independent museum that exists to preserve and interpret the history and environment of West Lothian and make this heritage accessible, engaging and enjoyed by all. The Museum commemorates the shale-oil industry that came to dominate West Lothian’s economy and landscape until closure in 1962, with a narrow-gauge railway offering rides along the riverbank. The working watermill and machinery shed provide an insight into West Lothian’s rural past, while the buildings and paddocks of Mill Farm are home to many friendly animals.

(The definitive work on the shale industry and its associated railways by IRO member Harry Knox was published last year, and Harry has been much involved in the museum)

This event is limited to 20 attendees. There is no charge for this event but booking through the CILT office in Corby is required. Quote booking code SR0xx. A light buffet will be available.
