Event Details

Our next debate focuses on a lively subject area: safety vs performance. Do cost and the desire for good punctuality figures prevent us going as far as we should in terms of safety? Or do we pander too much to ‘safety’ and not run the railway as efficiently as we could? Or is safety vs performance a myth because you can’t have one without the other? Whatever your viewpoint you won’t want to miss what promises to be one of our most entertaining and interesting debates yet.

We will have three speakers to lead the debate but everyone will have the opportunity to put their own viewpoint across and see what other people think. Our speakers will be:

  • Martin Grier, Head of Trains at Southern,
  • Paul Williams, Head of Safety at First Great Western,
  • Ian Walmsley, who has recently retired from Porterbrook after 25 years in rolling stock engineering and now has a regular column in Modern Railways magazine.

Refreshments will be available from 17:30 and after the event, plus a group of members usually go for dinner afterwards.

Members should register to attend via the Bookings area below.
