IRO Area

Event Details

Following our successful Operations Experience events in 2010 and 2011 the IRO South West Area have arranged a re-run of the event at the Avon Valley Railway at Bitton near Bath. Participants will have the opportunity to undertake Driver, Driver Assistant, Guard, Shunter and Signaller duties. This year there will also be a “challenging” scenario involving incident management and degraded operations. There will be two trains in operation with a participant roster which will provide an opportunity to experience all roles.

There will be a charge of £45 per person. Numbers are limited to 10 participants. Priority will be given to IRO Students on the Education Programme and South West Area Members but the event is open to IRO Members from all Areas wishing to gain more experience of railway operations. IRO Members are also welcome to come and join us at the Avon Valley Railway on the day, travel on the line and meet the IRO South West Area Council. Bitton Station is approximately 1 mile from Keynsham station on the National Rail network. For further details and to book a place please contact Chris Prior at FGW on chris.prior@firstgroup.com or go to www.avonvalleyrailway.org
