Operational Skills Weekend Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th October 2016

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to operate a railway? What it takes to keep the wheels of a heritage railway moving?

We have a unique opportunity to do just that! Our Operational Skills Weekend aims to go behind the scenes of the Kent and East Sussex Railway, giving you a chance to complete the duties of many different roles across the railway throughout the weekend.

The two day event will give each participant the opportunity to experience and operate many aspects of the railway, including time in two of the railway’s signalboxes, and a ride with the driver to experience the 21 mile round trip. You will spend time with the on-train staff including the Train Guard and the Travelling Ticket Inspector, and also with the stations team finding out what it’s like to run the flagship station Tenterden. You will rotate around each section throughout the two days, spending time with a knowledgeable member of staff who will demonstrate the role, and get you involved with the operation of the railway. Not only will you be involved with the operation of the railway, but you will also get to see behind the scenes, an insight in to what it takes for a heritage railway to keep moving.

This is a unique opportunity, and not one that you would normally be able to experience in such great detail. The event will cost £30 per person for the two days of activities, and spaces are limited, so do register your interest soon for your chance at gaining a place!

We will advise you as soon as possible if you have gained a place, as each participant will need to book their own accommodation for the event, and their own travel. We advise that either Tenterden, or Ashford would be the more suitable locations for accommodation, with Ashford International being the main and most accessible railway station in the area.
