Membership Terms and Conditions

These Membership Terms and Conditions are the basis of the contract through which the Institution of Railway Operators (IRO) will deliver a service to you and as an IRO member.

1. Membership

1.1. Membership of the IRO is open to individuals and is personal to each IRO member.
1.2. Applications for membership will be considered by the IRO who has the right to refuse applications.
1.3. The IRO has different levels of membership and the current levels of membership are detailed on the IRO website www.railwayoperators/membership/about-levels.
1.4. Members agree to pay an annual subscription fee for every year of membership of the Institution. Membership fees vary depending on the level and type of membership. The current annual subscription fees are detailed on the IRO website www.railwayoperators/membership/about-levels. Annual subscriptions can be paid in advance.
1.5. Your membership start date is specified as your date of your application to become a member of the IRO. However, your individual membership begins when your application has been reviewed, your membership fees have been paid and your welcome pack has been sent to you.
1.6. All information provided by you to us must be true and accurate at the point of applying. In the event of a change of circumstances such as moving jobs, change of contact details you must notify the IRO, by updating the information on your personal area on the IRO website, by phone, email or in writing so that our records are up to date.
1.7. Membership is not transferable and non-refundable.
1.8. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and to treat each other with courtesy.
1.9. Members are expected to promote the objectives of the Institution.
1.10. Members have the right to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Members will be notified of the AGM and matters to be discussed in advance.
1.11. Members agree to be bound by the IRO Membership Terms and Conditions.

2. Membership Benefits

2.1. Membership benefits may vary according to the level of individual membership.
2.2. IRO members receive a range of benefits which are detailed on the IRO website www.railwayoperators/membership.
2.3. The IRO reserves the right to change the benefits that apply to IRO membership at any time without prior notice.

3. Membership Upgrade

3.1. Members may apply to upgrade their membership at any time
3.2. Membership upgrade applications are to be submitted in accordance with the upgrade process detailed on the IRO website www.railwayoperators.co.uk/membership/upgrade-your-membership/
3.3. Members agree to pay the membership upgrade administration fee which is payable when the upgrade has been awarded. The current annual subscription fees are detailed on the IRO website www.railwayoperators.co.uk/membership/upgrade-your-membership/

4. Membership Payments, Renewals and Cancellations Renewal

4.1. Membership renewal occurs bi-annually in May and November and your personal membership record and membership card will indicate your membership renewal date.
4.2. As a member of the Institution, it is your responsibility to advise the Institution of your intention not to renew. Subscription payments not received within one month of becoming due will result in the membership being considered lapsed and all services may be suspended pending payment.
4.3. Lapsed membership may incur additional re-joining fees.
4.4. Membership charges will continue to accrue, until resignation is received in writing, subject to the cancellation procedure outlined below.
4.5. To cancel your membership, you will need to notify us in writing stating a reason which will be recorded for internal use only. Refunds will not be given for cancelled memberships.
4.6. Membership can only be cancelled after payment of all subscriptions, or any other sums of money due, including any subscription for the current year.
4.7. On cancellation of membership, all certificates of membership must be returned and the use of the Institution post-nominal letters must cease.

5. Terminating Membership

5.1. The IRO reserves the right to withdraw membership or to prevent any member from renewing membership if the member puts the Institute into disrepute.
5.2. The IRO reserves the right to withdraw membership if the member is deemed to have misused the membership privileges.
5.3. If a member is found to have contravened the IRO terms and conditions membership may be terminated by the Institution without prior warning.

6. Variation of Terms & Conditions

These terms and conditions may be revised from time to time. If they are revised, we will post or email the revised version to you. It will be your responsibility to keep up-to date with all such changes and your continued membership shall be deemed acceptance of any changes to these terms and conditions.

The IRO is a UK registered company, registration number 7655952, governed by its Articles of Association and Bye-Laws.

Your use of the IRO website is subject to the following terms and conditions, which you are deemed to accept by using the website. If you are not able to accept these terms and conditions, you should not use the IRO website.

By accessing this website, you agree that you will access its contents solely for your own personal, professional, but non-commercial use. Your use of any information or materials on this website is entirely at your own risk, for which we shall not be liable. It shall be your own responsibility to ensure that any products, services or information available through this website meet your specific requirements. This website contains material which is owned by or licensed to us. This material includes, but is not limited to, the design, layout, look, appearance and graphics. Reproduction is prohibited other than in accordance with the copyright notice, which forms part of these terms and conditions.

3. Privacy

The IRO will process members’ personal data in order to effectively communicate with IRO members, to administer IRO membership in a proper, timely, cost effective and secure manner and to fulfil the requirements of the Institution’s Articles of Association and Bye-Laws in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. The IRO will respect your email privacy, and we will only send you unsolicited mail if you have agreed to this. The IRO will not pass on your email address and contact details unless the IRO has your prior consent and will never supply your details your any organisations for marketing purposes. Delegates at IRO events have told us it is beneficial to see who else is attending an event. For this reason, we make available a list of all delegates (name, job title and company) to those who are themselves attending an event.

4. Links to Third Party Websites

This website contains links to other websites for your convenience and the inclusion of the link in our website does not imply any endorsement, guarantee, warranty or representation by us of the quality or accuracy of the information, products or services provided to you on these third-party websites.

These websites are not operated by the IRO and are not under the control of the IRO. The links are not monitored or maintained by the IRO nor are we responsible for the content of such third-party websites. The IRO accepts no responsibility whatsoever for these websites so, if you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that the IRO does not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.

5. No Unlawful or Prohibited Use

As a condition of your use of the IRO website, you confirm to the IRO that you will not use the IRO website for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these terms, conditions, and notices. You may not use the IRO website in any manner which could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the IRO website or interfere with any other party’s use and enjoyment of the IRO’s websites. You may not obtain or attempt to obtain any materials or information through any means not intentionally made available or provided for through the IRO’s websites.

The IRO reserves the right at all times to disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, or to edit, refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, in the IRO’s sole discretion.

Always use caution when giving out any personally identifying information about yourself or your children in any Communication Service. The IRO does not control or endorse the content, messages or information found in any Communication Service and, therefore, the IRO specifically disclaims any liability with regard to the Communication Services and any actions resulting from your participation in any Communication Service. Managers and hosts are not authorised IRO spokespersons, and their views do not necessarily reflect those of the Institution.

7. Modification of These Terms of Use

The IRO reserves the right to change the terms, conditions, and notices under which the IRO’s website is offered, including, but not limited to, the charges associated with the use of the IRO website.
