Eugene EganIt is with great sadness and deep regret that the Institution learned of the passing of our esteemed colleague and fellow Institution member Eugene Egan.

Eugene was among the most dedicated and hard-working members of the Irish Area Council. He was devoted to organizing and helping to promote the Institution on many levels. Eugene served the Institution proudly as a full member for many years and held the position of Treasurer of the Irish Area Council up until the time of his passing.

He could best be described as a ‘true railway man’, with a wealth of experience from a career that spanned 40 years. A career that saw him rise through operational ranks with Irish Rail, ultimately holding down the post of Safety Auditor based at Connolly Station in Dublin.

Throughout his time with the IRO, Eugene devoted his time and talent to the Institution and without a doubt we will be a lesser organisation without him.
While many members will be aware of Eugene from his administrative role not so many will know of his contribution to the day-to-day running of the Institution and his input to the various special projects he was involved in. He has always added hugely to whatever issue was being addressed and indeed his professional attitude and understanding of complex problems was invaluable.

We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Elizabeth and family, David, Sarah, Ruth and Gregory on behalf of the Institution and entire club membership.
